Specifications of few Sainte Marie’s diving site
SERAPIS

11km in the North of Bora Dive centre, in front of the town, you visit SERAPIS ship’s remnants that sank in 1781 on Sainte Marie’s coast. The SERAPIS, built in England, travelled for the first time half 1779 during the crisis period that Americans called the American Revolution. This war flared many oceans around the globe. SERAPIS’s first mission was escorting Baltiks’s merchant fleet under a British flag. It was captured by John Paul Jones during the egregious battle with fellow Richard and this victory gave to Americans a new momentum throughout the darkest days of this revolution. This ship end in French fleet and was into the hands of the famous pirate William Kid. He sank by fire near Sainte Marie coast. The wreck was officially localised by Dick Swete in 1999.

In the sites, we still seen five colossal cannons as well as cannonballs and rum bottles. The anchor, imposing because of its size, show the sinking’s location. Marine life developped surrounding relics creating a new one landscape. Besides deep-water corals, we could see a Merou Faraud affectionately named Georges the Guardian, who friendly escort divers along the diving. We could also see lionfish, syngnathes, pufferfish, cleaner shrimp and several species of shellfish. A positive blend of life and history !

RAYS PALACE

10 km along the Channel, a wreck of a small fishing vessel collect an astonishing diversity by far of the corral barrier. We can found large pelagic species besides enormous stingrays, school of bigeye trevally, barracudas and if you are marvellous lucky eagle-rays flying. Merous can also be found among shoals of fusiliers which perform in rhythm. Deep dives in the middle of the Big Blue which will astonish immensity ham.

BARRACUDA

3 Km in the South West of the centre, near the Natte’s Isle, the reef unless twenty meters deep is distinguished by its purple phosphorescent corals. It brings a various species of coral fishes like parrotfish, wrasses, damselfishes, fusiliers, angelfishes and more. We could also find wreck anchor and his guardian, a crocodile-fish which rests in the sand and watch out tirelessly.

PURPLE RAIN

3 Km in the South West of the centre, near the Natte’s Isle, the reef unless twenty meters deep is distinguished by its purple phosphorescent corals. It brings a various species of coral fishes like parrotfish, wrasses, damselfishes, fusiliers, angelfishes and more. We could also find wreck anchor and his guardian, a crocodile-fish which rests in the sand and watch out tirelessly.

ILE AUX TRESORS

4Km in the North of the dive centre, this underwater mountain which rises within thirty meters looks like a pirate’s treasure. It is largely covered with mushroom-corals which can recall us scattered coins in the depth of the ocean. In its summit we can found striped moray which is living in a spong barrel. Around it, we meet green turtles, guitar rays, squids, and amazing variety of nudibranches. Banks of surgeonfishes complete the paint by dancing around the profit.

LE BENITIER

High reef mountain rising up for 22 meters deep water to 8 meters deep in its summit. As its name suggests, we can find specimens of giant clams, the biggest bivalve mollusk. The site is also a Ninja’s place, a green shy turtle, which is letting divers admiring her. We can see « sept doigts », « seches » and « pterois with antenna » with corral defended by damselfishes.

BUBBLE CITY

This corral mountain rise up to thirty meters deep. The host of many bubble corral, hence its name City of Bubble. Informed diver could see huge crocodile fish at the summit, hiding under rocks. Lizard-fish, wrasses, groupers and squirrelfish thrive for the pleasure of all observers. Giant school of fusiliers and surgeonfishes round out the sector on the hilltop.

ÎLE AUX NATTES

Just outside the lagoon of Natte’s Isle, this reef above a depth of twenty meters looks like a treasure hunt. In this outstanding breadth, diver has the task of survey all stones searching for treasure hidden. He will met stingrays, guitar-rays or « torpille rays », lobsters and nudibranches attempting to hide. The reed is also a passage way of many green turtles encapsulated which will provide to be followed. If you are lucky, you can also see torque of wthite reef shark.

BIG EYES

Just near Natte’s Isle, this site above a depth of twenty meters is made up of two hills side by side, reminding us big great porcupine fish eyes which thrive in the region. Diver will appreciate its cute face which is peeping under rocks. Its cousin pufferfish could be seen all over the site. Encapsulated turtles can also be found with octopus, lionfish and few morays.

COCOBAY et LA CRIQUE

A little in the North towards Lokintsy, in Sainte Marie’s scenic seaside settings, those sites are worth the trip. Cocobay is composed of high rock cliffs that descend twenty meters more. It is a playground for divers with its winding corridors, tunnels and sections of mountain which get lost near the soil surface. Aquatic life has seen his beauty scenery by establishing there, morays, pufferfish, parrot fish or green turtles. On the other hand, La Crique is a series of rocky mountains where broader variety of nudibranches are. A vast expanse, the site let divers meetings, always renewed with box-fish, butterflyfish, lobsters, surgeonfishes, and more over. After diving, a break at the restaurant La crique to taste local dishes or appreciate coconut water freshly picked in Cocobay, before returning to sea for an astonishing visit of Sainte Marie’s lush green coast.
